Citation Rate AI Citation Rate

The percentage of AI answers in a defined prompt set where your brand is named or linked to as a source — the cleanest single metric for AI visibility.

In depth

Citation rate is calculated by running a fixed prompt set against multiple AI engines and counting how often each engine cites the brand (by name, by URL, or in a structured source list). It's prompt-set-dependent, so the discipline is to maintain a stable, representative set per category and market and re-run it on a cadence. Cited != recommended — citation rate measures presence, not preference.

Why it matters

It turns 'are we visible to AI?' from a feeling into a number. A baseline citation rate makes optimisation work measurable; deltas over time make programme value provable.
